After a failed summer transfer to Manchester City, Tottenham striker Harry Kane says he has a clear conscience.
Harry Kane appeared to be on his way to the Etihad Stadium for a world-record amount earlier in the transfer window, after returning late to pre-season training amid speculations of a deal.
With rumors about his future rife, the England captain took to Twitter last week to reaffirm his commitment to Spurs for the time being.
Tottenham fans screamed “Are you watching Harry Kane?” as the team beat City on the first weekend of the Premier League season without their talisman.
It’s unclear how fast he’ll be welcomed back into the fold in north London, but he’s not concerned that the events of the summer will have an influence.
When asked if he was concerned about his reputation being ruined, he said, “No, I don’t think so.”
“Anyone who works in the football industry is familiar with the ins and outs, and I remained composed in the face of the circumstance.
It was a battle between me and the club, and when you know the truth and what’s going on, your conscience is clear.
I’ve had my ups and downs, and many people are aware that I’m a professional athlete who devotes my life to this sport. My goal is to win silverware at Tottenham in the future, and this year is no exception.
“We have had a fantastic start to the Premier League with three wins and a new boss. This is where I am concentrating my efforts. We want to win as many games as possible and bring home the trophy I’ve been dreaming about my entire career.”
Harry Kane, who will captain the Three Lions against Hungary in a World Cup qualifier on Thursday night, says he is now entirely focused on completing his goals at Tottenham.
He told talkSPORT, “I am fairly adept at getting away from everything.”
“I was in England for a few days after the final and then went on vacation for a couple of weeks, and I didn’t use my phone much. I was aware that there was a lot of commotion around me, but I was unconcerned.
“I was aware of the issue involving myself and the club. Everyone had an opinion, but I am completely focused on my club and nation, and I am looking forward to a fantastic year.”
