Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has turned down a €160 million ($188 million) approach from Real Madrid for Kylian Mbappe, according to the French club’s sporting director.
Mbappe’s contract is set to expire in June 2022, and Leonardo de Araujo has made two proposals to the 22-year-old star, according to French media.
De Araujo alleged that Real Madrid made the bid for Mbappe to prove that they had completed all of the necessary paperwork and to transfer Mbappe without paying a transfer fee after a year of waiting.
He lambasted Real Madrid’s stance, describing it as “incorrect and illegal.”
“Real has been acting like way for the past two years. This isn’t accurate, and it’s even unlawful, because the player has been contacted. This is something we cannot allow. This isn’t the way it should be done.
“Their plan is to make an offer one year before the contract ends and seven days before the transfer window closes. Real Madrid wants the offer rejected because “they want to show Kylian that they’ve done everything so they can start negotiating with him for next year,” he explained.
They “verbally” rejected Real Madrid’s offer for Mbappe, according to De Araujo.
“We will not prevent Mbappe from leaving if he so desires. It will, however, be on our terms.”
Mbappe wants to leave PSG for Real Madrid, according to him, therefore the Spanish club made an offer.
PSG has a one-year contract with Mbappe, according to De Araujo, and the French club wants to extend it.
“We spent a lot of time talking with Kylian. He always said the same thing to us. Kylian has always stated that he will not abandon the team. That’s what he always said.”
Mbappe’s market value is €160 million, according to Transfermarkt, a German football data website.
The European summer transfer window will end at midnight on August 31.
PSG signed Mbappe, a high-scoring forward, in 2017.
Mbappe, who is known for his speed, dribbling skills, technique, and finishing ability, has 133 goals in 174 games for Paris Saint-Germain.
He won four Ligue 1 championships in France, three with PSG and one with Monaco.
Mbappe also played a key role in France’s 2018 FIFA World Cup victory in Russia.
